ASIC's vision is for a fair, strong and efficient financial system for all Australians.  This course investigates ASIC's overall role in regulating the credit industry and examines real world cases to expose how it uses its powers to enforce the law and protect consumers of credit.

Learning outcomes: 

On completion of this topic, you should be able to:

  • Outline ASIC’s overall role and key strategic priorities
  • Explain ASIC’s objectives in regulating consumer credit and administering national credit legislation
  • Update Australian Credit Licence holders and their representatives on ASIC’s surveillance, investigation and enforcement actions for breaches and misconduct in relation to consumer credit activities
  • Discuss the powers and different responses available to ASIC in enforcing the law, to protect consumers of credit
  • Evaluate the challenges and opportunities presented by ASIC reports and announced policy focuses.
